Lipetskaya region has reserves of limestone, sand, clay, peat, timber, water and fish resources, mineral fields. Lipetsk region occupies an advantageous geographic position, because located in the crossing of the most important transport roads. This position and considerable natural resource potential are major factors of social-economic development.
Population: The population of the oblast is 1,250,000 people, of which 475,000 live in the city of Lipetsk. Density of population - 51.9 persons per sq. km.
Economy: Lipetsk region possesses economic potential, the base of which is industrial production (60% of gross regional product). Leading industrial branches are ferrous metallurgy, machine-building. Power engineering, food industry, industry of building materials, chemical, textile are also developed. In the region there are 247 big and small enterprises. Grains (wheat, rye, buckwheat), sugar beet, sunflower are grown in the region. Beef-breeding, vegetable- and fruit-growing are developed.
Administrative division: Centre of the region is Lipetsk. The region is divided into 18 districts, 8 towns, 5 town settlements, 299 village administrations.
