Administrative division: The region is divided into 2 autonomous okrugs: Khanty-Mansyisky and Yamalo-Nenetsky, 28 districts, 24 towns of the regional submission.

Brief History:

• The town of Tyumen was founded in 1581
• In 1923 Tyumenskaya province was a part of Uralskaya region with the centre in Sverdlovsk.
• In 1934 it was a part of Ob-Irtyshskaya region with the centre in Omsk.
• Tyumenskaya region was founded in 1944.
